a 2 mile tempo run

I woke up feeling tired but okay, but by mid-morning had a severe sore throat. I managed to run anyways, and am glad I did, but I am not looking forward to tomorrows easy run or workout. It is the workout that will hurt.

According to the training plan, today was a 30 minute Tempo Run.  This was my first ever Tempo Run, and based on my calculations I was aiming for an easy paced mile (~10:30ish) followed by 2 miles at Tempo Pace (9:25-9:30) and a few minutes of cool down jogging plus walking.  I ended up doing it over lunch, and it was nice and cool and slightly misting. Perfect run weather. Plus since I was going for speed I picked a nice flat route around the seawall and over one of the bridges.  (Funny too,  I didn’t see any other runners, two weeks ago when it was gross and too hot there were tons of runners out at lunch.)

Laps (miles):

  1. 10:05 (too fast)
  2. 9:17 (pretty good)
  3. 9:06 (definitely too fast)
  4. 11:44 (only 0.34 miles)

Overall it went well, despite my severe sore throat, it was actually really fun and I was glad I went. I went too fast, of course but all and all I am really looking forward to speedwork. I am also looking forward to other distances, there are only so many 3 mile loops around.

  • Distance: 3.34 miles
  • Time: 31:59
  • Average Pace:  9.43 min/mile
  • Avg HR\Max HR: 151/169
  • Cals: 325

I am currently finishing off some homemade soup, watching Glee, and then heading to bed early.

healthy meal idea of the day:

Crispy Tofu, Mango and Strawberry Salad
