i lost my house key

I had a psychic moment this morning.  I was about 9 or 10 minutes into my run and I thought to myself oh my god, where is my house key? I patted myself down and checked my pockets, twice. It was gone.  Fuck.

Fuck, fuck fuck.  I started retracing my steps at a slow jog when I remembered having heard a funny sound about a block away from home.  Over the sound of my music it sounded like a kids bicycle bell, but when I turned around there was no one around.   (I am a seriously stupid cookie 20 minutes after waking up! Like Duh!)  Sure enough, when I got back to the area I very carefully starting combing the sidewalk and the grass and after a few minutes I found my key, whew!    I am so glad I found it, oh my goodness, what are the chances!!!!??

Here are some lessons for all of us runners out there.  First when you put your house key in your pocket use a safety pin, or go one better and put it in the little pocket in your running pants so that it is skin tight and locked in.  Second, when you hear a strange sound around you, check for all your important possessions!

There were so many reasons this run should’ve sucked, and you know what I think that is exactly why it rocked!

  1. It was pouring rain. First early morning pouring rainy run of the year.
  2. It was really dark outside.  I couldn’t even see my speed (which turned out to be a good thing, even if I was a little too fast, one lap was 9:16.)
  3. I lost my key! Gosh.

I obviously didn’t see any other runners out there this morning, I am the only silly one.  I am still in shock at all the fair weather Vancouver runners out there. Do they really prefer the dreadmill?  I am still dealing with some aches and pains in my lower shins and calves, nothing too bad, just worth pampering a bit.

  • Distance: 4.4 miles
  • Time: 44:44
  • Pace: 10:15 min/mile
  • Avg HR\Max HR:  148/166
  • Calories: 434

healthy meal idea of the day:

Maybe it is just because I came in from running in the rain, still have wet hair from my shower and am icing my calf, but I think this roasted butternut squash soup with shallots from Cooking Light sounds delicious.  I love squash!

  • i am soooo paranoid about losing my key. when i’m at home i hide it in a secure place in my yard and when i had a key for school i’d tie it in my shoelaces (although i’d get paranoid about the laces coming undone). now i just need my id to get into my building (yay new buildings!) but i’m stumped for a good peace-of-mind place to put in.

great running today! pouring rain =/= my friend so you are a champ for getting out there!
