full moon, sleepy legs

My calf is starting to really bother me, I did the 30 day shred as my weights yesterday, plus a bit of extra arms and core, but all the jumping was hurting me so I iced it twice last night and was hoping it would be fine this morning.   Sadly I woke up and  a few minutes into my run could feel it was still an issue.  I guess I am back to icing, advil, stretching and rolling.  This calf was actually the same place that I had issues during my last training plan.  Last time I took 10 days off and I really don’t want to do that again, especially since I just signed up for the Turkey Trot 10K on Monday. So what do you guys think I should do?   Is this something to panic about?  Would a massage help? Should I skip my tempo run tomorrow?

The run really wasn’t that bad, it isn’t like it is sever pain, just minor twinging.  My legs were tired so I didn’t have any problems slowly myself down.  It was a nice run otherwise.  The moon was full and super bright which makes me feel safer despite running by two packs of construction workers in the dark.  It really isn’t fair, but big packs of men wig me out when it is dark out and I am alone, okay?

  • i don’t think a massage would hurt but do you have access to a foam roller? that might be a cheaper way of helping it out. and i don’t see why you can’t do your tempo just as long as your not in extreme pain / the pain isn’t changing your form.

    hope it feels better!

  • +1 to Karyn- I’d try to stretch and roll it out as much as possible. Hopefully if you work at it right away, you’ll take care of it before it turns into a real injury.

  • Thanks guys, I do have a foam roller and I used it last night and this morning, plus stretching too. Good to hear there is no worry about hurting myself. We will see how that tempo goes tomorrow!
