wet and dark easy run

Dragged my ass out of bed this morning for a 3 mile easy run.  I was smart enough to leave my running jacket at work yesterday so I wore a long sleeve tech top and a fleece vest. By the end of my run I was actually really cold because I was wet. I actually burned my oatmeal because I was in the shower for so long.   I think I need a better system in the morning. Anyone have any tricks for a warm, but quick breakfast?

  • Distance: 3.4 miles
  • Time: 35:20
  • Pace: 10:27 (Laps: 11:34,
  • Avg HR\Max HR: 141/183
  • Cals: 337

Other then that the run was fine, the first mile was slow and rough and my heart rate was really high. I think I am a bit tired. I am still dealing with some aches in my shins just above my ankles so I think I am going to skip strength today since I did to do it at a fairly high impact.  I may to some arms and core after work.

healthy meal idea of the day:

This is what I made after my weekend run to refuel. Rapini and feta tossed with whole wheat egg noodles. I love comfort food.

  • Do you cook your oatmeal on the stove? I do mine (old fashioned) in the microwave for 3 min after I’ve had my shower. It’s a little bit of a wait, but I use the time to pack my lunch. It’s cold here, too, so I feel your pain.

  • I do, I think it tastes better then the microwave. What method do you use? (i.e. ratio and power?)
3 minutes isn’t so bad to wait at all!

  • I get those same aches in the lower shin. Mine rarely bother me while I’m running, but later after standing for awhile. They got better after I switched shoes, but flare up occasionally.

  • This is great to hear Jess. I can definitely feel it when I am running, but it isn’t overly painful. (Which is why I am still running.)
I iced this morning and took an advil post-run. Any other advice?
