Gear

These are all unnecessary but good fun for running and workouts and I use them all frequently.

ipod shuffle

I have one of the last generation ipod shuffle’s that clip on. They are so great because they are teeny and almost never have to be charged. I usually run my headphone cord through and inside my shirt so it doesn’t get in my way.

Garmin Forerunner 305

I have had my garmin for about 6 months now and I love it.  It is great for tracking mileage and heart rate. I find it to be a great incentive to do just one more quarter mile or kilometre. If you are looking to invest in a garmin I highly recommend it and don’t find it too big at all (the common criticism when compared to the 405).

Polar F5 HRM

When I first started running I found I got headaches afterwards quite easily. The Heart Rate Monitor is a great tool to make sure I don”t go too fast and make sure I cool down slowly.  Now that I have been running longer I find it great to try and push myself and I usually use it when I am doing spin, running or otherwise working out inside.

iPhone

Yup, before any of my other tech toys, I did use my iphone to track my runs  I have tired both mapmyrun and Distance apps and found them both fine. The trick is always finding somewhere to stash your iphone when running or working out.

Foam Roller

I hurt my right calf muscle last February while I was training for my first half marathon and read fabulous things about them online so I picked one up.  If you use it properly it can make quit e a difference, but be careful it hurts like hell and you can make things worse.
